The Righteous Shall Live by Faith: By Faith – The Righteous Shall Live

Tim Rehmer

The righteous shall live by faith. In Romans 1:17 Paul exclaims God’s greatest promise in Christ; by faith we possess the righteousness of Christ unto eternal life.

Eternal life begins for the believer by trusting in God’s provision through His Son Jesus. This is the eternal spring of all that living and being means. This truth encapsulates the fullness of what God has given man in Christ. By faith we live and we live by faith.

Life by Faith

Life by faith is eternal life. Life by faith is the promise of the righteousness of Christ given to the believer. Life by faith moves us from the position of condemnation before God to the position of justified.

Life by faith was established before the foundations of the world in Christ by our merciful heavenly Father (Eph 1:4). Life by faith is born in us as we understand that we are dead in our sin and condemned by the holy justice of God. We understand that, be it not for Christ taking our sin at Calvary, we would eternally suffer and have no life at all. Life by faith comes as God lovingly draws us to the beauty of Jesus Christ. Life by faith understands that the punishment Christ endured was ours. Understanding our sin and its cost, we repent and receive faith unto eternal life in Christ. Life by faith, purposed before time in Christ, is now alive in us and we can live by faith.

Living by Faith

Living by faith is now — today. Living by faith is living trusting in what Christ has done in the here and now. Living by faith is accepting that ‘there is now therefore no condemnation’ — ever (Rom 8:1). Living by faith is daily and continually leaning on and trusting in the promises of God. Living by faith is trusting in His provision, in His promises, in His sovereignty and in His plan.

Living by faith allows us to love our spouse, children, family, and our neighbor. Living by faith allows us to overcome the foolishness in this world. Living by faith allows us to forgive. Living by faith allows us to experience God every day. Living by faith allows us to daily persevere. Living by faith brings perspective. Living by faith is overcoming. Living by faith every day is living life and living ‘life more abundantly’ (Jn 10:10). Living by faith is the freedom of trusting that every promise from God is true.

So when the worlds priorities are changing, when the worlds wisdom disagrees, and when the worlds timeline says now, faith, based in the priorities, time, and wisdom of an unchanging God is what determines our living — the works of Christ our reward. Live then as Christ lived. Live knowing each moment is in the sovereign plan and purpose of God to give you life.

TO KNOW IS TO LIVE
